Rula was born in England of Polish parents who came over as refugees after the war. After a convent education, she finally persuaded her parents to allow her to audition for drama school where she completed a three-year diploma. Rula has been lucky enough to have worked fairly steadily ever since….mostly in theatre her first love … also a lot of TV work in programmes such as Boon, Minder, Robin of Sherwood, Dr Who, EastEnders, Carrie and, most recently,Casualty.
Also a veteran of panto though Rula says she’s played her last wicked queen.... Rula is honoured to have worked with some amazing people like Oliver Reed, Peter Sellers, Les Dawson, Bernard Cribbins and John Inman – to name but a few.
Rula has also read hundreds of audio books and done many documentaries and commentaries. One of the first put her in touch with the wonderful Daphne Sheldrick which in turn got her deeply involved with many animal charities, the latest being Naturewatch Foundation.
For the last 40 years Rula has worked with Born Free, EIA, David Shepard Wildlife Foundation, Animals Asia, and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Helping to give animals a voice has been a large part of Rula’s life and she considers herself lucky to have travelled far and wide and seen all the animals where they should be….in what is left of the wild. Rula also supports the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
“I am thrilled to have been asked to be a Patron of Naturewatch Foundation. I believe that we can all make a difference…however small. We all have a duty to preserve our planet and the delicate balance of nature. Sadly, man and his greed don't seem to have had the forethought to realise that all things are connected. As chief Seattle said in his famous speech, “Man did not weave the web of life he is merely a strand in it”.
The animals have as much right to this world as we do and I will do my best to support Naturewatch Foundation in making a difference for animals.”
