Local council public awareness campaign
In late 2019, Naturewatch Foundation wrote to all local councils in England, Scotland and Wales asking them to publish their list of licensed dog breeders on their website. This transparency will help local people know which dog-breeders have been inspected to ensure welfare standards for the dogs and puppies!
The law states that if a person breeds three or more litters of puppies in any 12-month period (unless they don’t sell any of the puppies) and advertises a business of selling dogs, they must have a licence from their local council and they must display their licence number in any adverts for puppies.
