VACANCY: Open-source Animal Crime Investigator

 

Role description

Naturewatch Foundation, based in Cheltenham, is seeking an Open-Source Animal Crime Investigator to support its campaigning activities to end illegal puppy farming and breaches of animal welfare standards in the breeding of dogs.

The initial contract would be 35 hours per week for one year and can be 100% home-based if necessary.

Main responsibilities:

  • Answer telephone calls and emails relating to #Hotline4Puppies, dedicated email address PuppyFarming@naturewatch.org and dedicated mobile phone
  • Liaise with informants/sources
  • Assess and prioritise Information received to relevant destination. Meaning immediate dissemination as information to partner agency, utilise as campaign material, or place under investigation
  • Investigate illegal puppy farming and breaches of animal welfare standards in the breeding of dogs via open sources
  • Prepare exhibited research reports, liaise with enforcement agencies and follow through appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Take all necessary action to ensure that each case is taken as far as possible. We accept that prosecutions cannot be guaranteed
  • Follow set procedures and maintain all necessary records
  • Ensure we remain compliant with RIPA, GDPR etc
  • Liaise with Line Manager - Puppy Farming Campaign Manager

Skills required:

  • Completed accredited, open-source intelligence training course
  • Experience of source handling
  • Experience of processing information/intelligence
  • Has the specific desk-based research skills needed for the role
  • Can demonstrate experience in researching puppy farming or similar
  • Able to provide some examples of open-source investigations conducted
