The results are in! What YOU told us!
There is NO PLACE for animal testing! That was the message that clearly resonated in your responses to the survey we hosted on animal testing and cruelty-free shopping at the turn of the year.
We received more than 500 detailed comments from nearly 400 completed survey responses. Many thanks if you participated in the survey. These graphics, produced by one of our wonderful volunteers, clearly show the strength of feeling. The quotations, taken from participants comments, give a real flavour of your impassioned views.
It is horrific that, in 2019, animals are still being abused for cruel testing. According to the latest Home Office statistics, 3.72 million animals were tested on and killed in Britain in 2017 – with 451 animals used for household product ingredients testing (2018 statistics are due to be published mid-2019).
It’s shocking that the Government is still struggling to respond to their own 2014 consultation to get rid of Section 24 of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. We will continue to urge the Government to repeal this ‘Secrecy Clause’ which hides what goes on in animal testing labs. We believe cancelling this outdated law will help drive efforts to promote good science such as alternative testing methods including using human cells and tissues (in vitro methods), advanced computer-modelling techniques (in silico models), and studies with human volunteers. We need to see research funding diverted away from failing animal models and towards human-relevant techniques to ultimately eliminate the need for animal testing.
Thank you again for participating in our survey and contributing to the research we are undertaking to compile the 15th Edition of the Compassionate Shopping Guide. It is invaluable information.
