UK dog welfare
We’re teaching primary school children about dog welfare and dog safety awareness, helping them to respect dogs and understand them.
It goes without saying that dog attacks on children can of course be horrific, however it’s important to recognise the value of knowledge about dog welfare, safety and behaviour.
For every child attacked, it’s the dog that pays the ultimate price when euthanised.
We’re teaching primary school children about dog welfare and dog safety awareness, helping them to respect dogs and understand how to avoid forcing them into situations where they feel the need to protect themselves.
Children learn how to recognise what dogs are telling them through body language and how to react appropriately, so they don’t get hurt and the dogs can live stress-free, comfortable lives.
It’s understandable that children want to cuddle every dog they see, but that’s not how dogs interpret it. At the other extreme, children who are afraid of dogs will learn how to take control of their fear.

Education and entertainment
We’re working with the Freshwater Theatre Company to deliver interactive workshops in primary schools. Their 20 years of teaching and drama experience ensures children have fun while they learn about dog welfare and safety.
We’ve been working in schools in Merseyside, because government statistics show this area regularly sees one of the highest rates of hospital admissions for dog “bites and strikes” in England. But we’ll make the programme more widely available when we have the funds to do so.
