Education in schools
We believe that compassion for animals should start from early years. Educating our children during their school years is key for a kinder place for people and animals.
When children witness animal cruelty they can often take away a message that it’s okay. Our message is clear, ‘The safest communities for people are those in which animals are protected.’ Read more about our Protect Animals. Protect People work.
When it comes to wildlife crime, compassion for nature, and kindness to animals, we support the education of children to spread awareness of the importance of protecting them.
We work with police school liaison teams and have produced a book, ‘A Badger’s Tale’ and have attended events to share our child-friendly resources on keeping animals safe.

Our film collaboration
Since 2018 our Badger Baiting School Awareness Programme has helped to raise awareness about illegal badger persecution with teenagers. In a collaboration with Alex Collins, a young conservationist and filmmaker, we’ve created an inspiring documentary about badgers and the threats they face.
In the film, Alex delves into the lives of badgers, exploring how vital they are to their ecosystems, as well as the terrible persecution they face at the hands of humans. It teaches teenagers how to recognise signs of wildlife crime and how they can take action.
It’s a valuable resource, not only for teachers, but for police officers, badger groups and other wildlife organisations too. You can also request a free education support pack. To get yours, email us at info@naturewatch.org.
A Badger’s Tale
The wildlife crime novel ‘A Badger’s Tale’ by Geoff Francis is for young adults and supports the education programme.
It’s a vital addition to any animal-loving teenager’s bookshelf.
