Compassionate shopping guide
For over 20 years the Naturewatch Compassionate Shopping Guide has been the definitive guide to cruelty free shopping for cosmetics, toiletries and household cleaning products. The Guide puts the spotlight on companies that continue to test on animals in order to develop ‘revolutionary new ingredients’, and highlights genuinely cruelty free companies who are worthy of your custom.
Since the first guide was published in 1993, it’s helped many thousands of people shop for cruelty free products. It’s also encouraged companies big and small to improve their animal testing policies in order to comply with our strict criteria for inclusion in the Guide.
On 11th March 2013 the EU Cosmetics Testing Ban came into force, officially recognising that animals shouldn’t be suffering for the sake of human vanity. The EU ban means that any company wishing to sell NEW cosmetic products within the European Union must ensure that none of the ingredients, or finished products, have been tested on animals anywhere in the world. The ban affects all cosmetics including toiletries and beauty products from soap to toothpaste.
Although this is a wonderful step forward, we now have to convince the rest of the world to follow suit! Meanwhile, L'Oréal, and other multi-national companies are able to continue using animal testing to develop new products to sell outside Europe. Most importantly, profits from the sale of products within the EU manufactured by these companies can still be used to fund animal testing elsewhere in the world!
If you don’t want your money funding animal testing outside Europe then you need a copy of the Naturewatch Compassionate Shopping Guide. The Naturewatch guide is unique as no other organisation takes into consideration the policy of the parent company, if applicable. Even if a subsidiary company has a Fixed Cut Off Date in place, it cannot be endorsed if its parent company does not.
Through making informed choices you can use your purchasing power to only support cruelty free companies and send a clear message to those who continue to profit from animal suffering.
