Last weekend, the Naturewatch Foundation team joined hundreds of local runners at Pittville Park, Cheltenham to celebrate World Animal Day. In a community-wide act of kindness, local parkrun volunteers and runners made donations of pet food for animals in need, as part of Naturewatch Foundation’s annual ‘Donate a Dinner’ campaign, encouraging people across the UK to support their local animal rescues. Some even ran the parkrun in animal fancy-dress – you may spot our CEO as Sarah the seagull!
Runners, families and members of the local community stopped by the Naturewatch Foundation stall before and after the weekly Cheltenham parkrun, with donations collected for Teckels Animal Sanctuaries and Cheltenham Animal Shelter.
With animal rescue centres across the UK facing increasing pressures, our Donate a Dinner campaign highlights how a simple act of kindness can make a meaningful difference to animals in care. In the build-up to World Animal Day, the Naturewatch Foundation team have contacted hundreds of animal shelters with information about how they can promote Donate a Dinner in their local areas, including providing posters, bunting and communications.
Working in partnership with other animal charities is a big part of Naturewatch Foundation’s work. We use our influence to raise animal welfare issues experienced and shared with us by ‘hands-on’ animal rescue organisations, with policymakers, MPs and law enforcement. We provide small, targeted financial grants such as our popular Pet Rescue Grant. We are proud to coordinate World Animal Day around the globe every October 4, uniting the animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.
It’s already a busy autumn at Naturewatch Foundation, and we hope readers will support our work throughout the rest of the year, as we help protect animals today and improve their world tomorrow.
