In anticipation of a 2024 general election, we’ve launched the #Win4Animals Manifesto, outlining the animal welfare issues that we and you – our fantastic supporters – want the next generation of MPs to tackle.
General election 2024
We don’t know exactly when the next election will be yet, but we do know the UK will go to the polls at some point in 2024. We also know that animal welfare plays a part in how people vote. In fact, a whopping 85% of you told us in a recent survey that you think animal welfare will influence how you’ll vote at the next election.
The Manifesto
You also told us which animal welfare issues matter most to you, and these have formed the basis of the Manifesto. Thank you so much to everyone who took part.
Following your valuable feedback, we’re calling on the next government to:
- End animal testing by investing in Non-Animal Methods (NAMs) and delivering an ambitious phase-out strategy;
- Make wildlife count by making wildlife crime recordable and closing loopholes in the Hunting Act 2004;
- Stop exploitative pet breeding by regulating all dog breeding for profit, and regulating cat and rabbit breeding;
- Break the link between animal abuse and domestic abuse by giving public protection personnel the tools to spot animal abuse in the home;
- Improve enforcement of our animal welfare laws by making it easier – and cheaper – for the authorities to take action for animals.

What we’re doing next
In the lead up to the election, we’ll be urging political parties and would-be politicians to take on board our recommendations and include progressive commitments for animals in their manifestos. We’ve sent the #Win4Animals Manifesto to the leaders of the major political parties in England and Wales, and we’ll let you know if we get a response.
