Ethical Consumer awards us joint first place!
Exciting news! Earlier this year, Ethical Consumer magazine rated us JOINT FIRST as one of the best cruelty-free guides on the market.
Ethical Consumer has been at the heart of the ethical shopping movement since 1989 and its mission is to make global businesses more sustainable through consumer pressure.
Earlier this year, they undertook a robust review of all the non-animal testing certifications and programmes in the UK and we’re delighted that our Compassionate Shopping Guide was awarded joint FIRST place!
Ours is one of the longest-running guides available!
For nearly 30 years, our Compassionate Shopping Guide has been helping shoppers navigate through the maze of cruelty-free claims and confusing legislation, helping them to make good choices and saving animals from experiments, imprisonment and suffering.
Best cruelty-free guide on the market for ‘scope’
When looking to endorse a brand, we believe it’s important to consider the parent company, too, because ultimately profits made by a subsidiary could be used to fund the activities of the parent company. When choosing an endorsed brand or product in our guide you can rest assured that they have a robust policy in place that doesn’t involve the use of animals throughout their entire company structure.
Ethical Consumer was so impressed with the tough endorsement criteria we require companies to follow that they rated our Compassionate Shopping Guide as the best cruelty-free guide for ‘scope’ in their review.
“Naturewatch Foundation’s guide has unparalleled scope and is the only certifier that requires the whole company group to abide by its no-animal testing requirements.”
Donna Smith, from Compassionate Shopping Guide, said “We are delighted that Ethical Consumer rated The Compassionate Shopping Guide joint first in their article reviewing cruelty-free guides. To be recognised as ‘best for scope’ is wonderful, as it underlines how important we feel to take into account the company’s policy as a whole.”
Our Compassionate Shopping Guide is free and is available online or can be purchased in print in our shop for £5.00.

Call time on animal experiments
Despite being an updated and cruel practice, sadly it is approximated that 3 million animals are still being used in ‘animal research’ in the UK.
