We purchased materials in Poland and our campaign manager Kate constructed 40 street dog feeding stations out of plumbing downpipes and u-bends. The stations have been installed in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi and other small surrounding villages so far. We are trialling the sustainability of them with factors such as the weather, local community input and response, effectiveness and aim to extend their use across Ukraine. We believe in empowerment and Ukrainians have provided great feedback so far, with many helping to install them in their communities.

Full tummies for the stray dogs in Ukraine

Not only do these street feeders enable a steady supply of feed for the dogs, but they also reduce the risk of bloat in dogs that can be caused by eating large amounts of food after a period of fasting whilst enabling a concentrated area for locals to monitor the health of the stray population. The physical risk to volunteers feeding the dogs also decreased due to the drop in necessity of repeat visits to the area with feed lasting longer than an emptied bag of food on the floor

We want to empower Ukrainians to support their stray populations and by supplying simple but effective solutions such as the drainpipe feeding stations, their health and wellbeing is managed by those people on the ground who know and love their regular homeless visitors.
