On Tuesday, 24th October 2023, we’re pleased to be joining forces with the All-party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG) to host a meeting about the animal-human violence Link in the UK Parliament.
Following the launch of our Protect Animals. Protect People campaign in June, APDAWG kindly offered us the chance to hold a dedicated meeting in Parliament. We’ll be joined by MPs, policy-makers, fellow NGOs and members of the public to discuss this important topic.
The meeting takes place during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and gives us a fantastic opportunity to celebrate some of our recent campaign successes whilst also hearing from an expert panel of speakers.
We’ll be joined by:
- Sarah Carr (Naturewatch Foundation);
- Maya Badham (Independent Specialist);
- Christina Warner (33 Bedford Row);
- David Martin (IVC Evidensia, Links Group & veterinary expert witness);
- Jason Fletcher (RSPCA);
- Gilly Mendes-Ferreira (Scottish SPCA);
- Laura Saunders (Dogs Trust Freedom Project);
- Sam Billingham (SODA – Survivors of Domestic Abuse).
Our panel will touch upon topics including the ways that perpetrators use animals to coerce and control; the legal framework; real-life case studies; how to intervene and prevent the Link by working with young people; and support services for animal victims. We’ll also hear first-hand experience.
