When did you fall in love with nature?
That was the question posed by naturalist, television presenter and Naturewatch Foundation patron Chris Packham in the closing speech at the Restore Nature Now peaceful demonstration outside the government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in London on Thursday, 28th September.
Hundreds of environmental, conservation and animal welfare representatives came together in their love for nature with the chant ‘No nature, no future’. Naturewatch Foundation was represented by our CEO, Sarah and Campaign team members Kate and Tash.

The demonstration was wholly peaceful, colourful and full of passion, calling for greater protection for the natural world. It was timely following the publication of the State of Nature Report 2023 the previous day, which featured startling statistics that the UK’s wildlife is continuing to decline. Alarmingly, the UK is now one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth. Whilst the reports say we are running out of time, the attendees heard that if there are nature-friendly policies from those in power, then there is hope.

At the demonstration, people opened their hearts and shared their hope that those in power will open their eyes to take the decisions they need to make to save all animals and our environment. We are united in the demand ‘Restore Nature Now!’
