At Naturewatch Foundation, we are proud to work with amazing organisations like Kharkiv Animal Rescue. Their courageous efforts continue to save animal and human lives in some of the most dangerous areas of Ukraine. Thanks to your generous support, we have made a real difference in their life-saving work.
Saving lives: How your support has rescued over 800 animals stuck on the frontline of war-torn Ukraine
Recently, Kharkiv Animal Rescue’ has evacuated 854 animals from conflict zones, including Kupyansk and its district, Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Konstantinovka, Chasiv Yar, and many smaller villages. Many of these animals are often left behind as families flee in desperate circumstances. However, rescuing them is not just about saving animals—it’s about rescuing people, too. Many families cannot bear to leave their homes unless their beloved pets can come with them. The team also offers families the chance to escape safely by rescuing pets.
One mission to Pokrovsk highlighted the danger. While rescuing animals, the team faced drone fire. Their vehicle was hit, but they survived and did not give up on their mission.
A growing crisis of sick animals in Ukraine
As winter approaches, the challenges increase. The cold weather brings additional complications, and the number of sick and injured animals arriving at the rescue has surged. Thanks to our supporters’ help, part of our recent donation has been buying essential medicines to treat these animals, providing the care they need.
