This year, World Animal Day celebrates an incredible milestone – its 100th anniversary! On October 4, animal lovers across the globe will come together to shine a light on animals and the people who care for them. What better way to mark this special occasion than by helping to feed animals in rescue centres through our ‘Donate a Dinner’ campaign?
At Naturewatch Foundation, we’re proud to coordinate World Animal Day worldwide. To mark this year’s centenary, we’ve already donated 100 dinners to our friends at Vale Wildlife Hospital, supporting the lifesaving work they do for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. With more than 8,000 injured animals arriving at Vale each year, food is one of their biggest costs. Our donation is just a small way to say thank you, and now, we’re inviting you to join in too.
Why donate a dinner?
Rescue and rehoming centres across the UK are under huge pressure, with more animals than ever needing their help. By donating a dinner, you’ll not only fill hungry tummies, but also show kindness to the amazing teams who dedicate their lives to caring for animals.

As our CEO, Sarah Carr, explains:
“World Animal Day on October 4 is the biggest day of the year for animals, and this year is extra special as we celebrate its centenary. Donating a dinner is such a simple but powerful way to show kindness. Every meal donated helps an animal in need and supports the incredible people who care for them.”
How you can get involved
There are lots of easy ways to donate a dinner:
- Drop a packet or tin in your rescue centre’s collection box, or food bank collection point
- Take your food donation directly to your local rescue centre
- Purchase items from a centre’s Amazon Wishlist
- Donate the cost of a meal through their website
To inspire others: we’ve created a printable image that says:
“I’ve donated a dinner for World Animal Day, will you fill a bowl too?”
Print it out, take a photo with your donation, and share it on social media with the hashtag #WorldAnimalDay. Every post helps spread the word and encourages more people to show their support.
Donating a dinner is just one way to celebrate World Animal Day. If you’d like to get involved further, you can host an event, take part in the 100K Challenge, or pledge an act of kindness for animals. Full details and resources can be found at worldanimalday.org.uk.
