On 9th July, Cherkasy, a city in central Ukraine, hosted ‘Volunteer Fest’ – an event devoted to the great work that the volunteers of Ukraine are doing during the war to help their country.
Our friends at Dobrokit, a cat shelter, took part in the event to show that there are not only people who need help. but animals as well. There are volunteers who are keen to help animals and this is another huge piece of work that needs to be done.
Naturewatch Foundation’s representative in Ukraine, Natalie Sorokopud, was glad to be involved in the event and even entered a small charity lottery to help cats from the shelter.
“We are happy to have been helping the Dobrokit shelter as it is one of the most exemplary cat shelters in Ukraine. They rescue, treat and rehome cats from dangerous parts of Ukraine such as the Donetsk and Kherson regions. During the event, we have discussed our further plans for common events as we are expecting fruitful cooperation.”
And there’s good news for two kittens from the Dobrokit shelter – yesterday, they found their forever homes and loving families!
Rescues help rescues
The incredible team at ‘Antares’ in Ukraine trains rescued dogs to find people and other animals trapped under rubble from explosions during the war.
Naturewatch Foundation supporters have funded these brave dogs with shoes to protect their legs from hot and sharp surfaces, and our Ukraine representative, Natalie, arranged the safety equipment to be shipped from the production line in Germany as quickly as possible to the frontline.
This is dangerous but essential work and the head of Antares is currently recovering from a serious injury caused by a landmine.
This is the reality of life in Ukraine.
No animals were harmed in this particular incident, but we must continue to ensure they have the best protection possible.
